Windows Transfer.

I use two laptops, one with XP/3 and the other with Vista/1. I wish to
use Windows Transfer wizard to transfer Settings and Files from the XP
to the Vista. I shall use an external hard drive for this transfer.

My question. Can I use the Transfer wizard from the XP CD to transfer
XP Settings and Files to the Vista? If not, how should I perform this
transfer reliably? My interests are e-mails, favorites and Word
Perfect documents.

Thank you,

Peter.

If you're interested in "e-mails, favorites and Word Perfect documents"
you don't need either FAST or Windows Transfer, particularly if you have
an external hard drive. Here are the most reliable methods:

For your documents: simply copy and paste to your external hard drive
and then to the other computer. An even more convenient way than copy
and paste is to use your backup software. (You are backing up...right?)

For your Favorites: Use the Import and Export Wizard in Internet
Explorer. Export the resulting html file to your external hard drive and
import from the same location.

For your e-mails: Tell us which e-mail program you are using and we can
probably provide specific directions for moving e-mail (and other
account data). For the best advice, ask about this in a newsgroup that
covers your email program.

Leonard, many thanks for your reply. I gave only a few of the items I
need to transfer but your suggestions are intriguing.

Peter.
