Problem with XP's CD menu

Hello All,

Hope this is the correct place to post this problem,

I have a problem running the "Transfer Files & Settings" from the XP CD.

Here's what happens...I insert the CD in my machine...The standard CD blue
menu appears...I select "Perform Additional Tasks"...then the next screen
appears...Then when I attempt to select the "Transfer Files & Settings"
button, a small screen appears in the center of my display that says
"Starting Install Shield Wizard".

Then it just sits there...nothing happens, sometime the wizard screen goes
away, sometimes not. The large blue Windows XP menu screen freezes itself on
my display and won't go away...I have to reboot to get the blue Windows menu
screen to leave......then the process will start all over if I try it again,
and again, and again. etc etc etc......

So, what' up and how do I fix this so I can run "transfer files & settings"?

All help, empathy and support is appreciated.

Thanks,

I am at a loss as to why you need the Windows XP CD for FAST. FAST should
run on it's own from within Windows...no need for the CD.

I have used FAST a few times in the past (I much prefer Ghost), and I have
never once had to have the Windows CD. it has always run from within
Windows XP.

Hello Again Hertz_Donut,

(my second response to your post tonight)

I did find the FAST in the accessories folder.

Thanks for the tip. Any idea why I can't run FAST from the XP CD?

Thanks

How do you run FAST? I've always run (I'm assuming File and Setting
Transfer) from the CD, but a big duh for me if I can somehow run it from the
hard drive.

Please let me know how.

Thanks much Hertz_Donut,

Start | All Programs (or Programs) | Accessories | System Tools | Files and
Settings Transfer Wizard

migwiz.exe = Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

Files and Settings Transfer Wizard...
Start | Run | Type: migwiz | OK

Gary Woodruff has a pretty good article here...
