Windows Shuts Down by Itself

I have a WinXP user whose PC just shutdowns randomly. I observed this
behavior first hand. It goes through a normal shutdown process like I had
done a 'Start', 'Shutdown.' I have already replaced the motherboard, power
supply, and re-flashed the BIOS. I'm doing a virus scan now. Any ideas?

Thanks,

John

Do you see a dialogue box countdown or, while you're working and doing
tasks, it just powers down? You can always check the event viewer and
see if something else is shutting it down. If it is just powering off
without warning, it could be a power supply with not enough watts.

Yes, there is a dialogue box that says Windows is shutting down. It's like
someone is doing the shutdown procedure.

Ok, that is usually indicative of a Trojan / Virus that was going
around a while back (like Sasser) that would randomly shut down
computers with the dialogue box. When you see it happening, open a
command prompt and type shutdown -a and press enter and it should kill
that message. You can also do it from the Start > Run box too.

What anti-virus software do you use? If you have none, I recommend
Antivir Personal Edition, it's free and self-updating.

Download and install Spybot Search & Destroy to see if it finds
anything.
