Windows Share and Slipstreaming

I followed the excellent instructions at www.theeldergeek.com on
slipstreaming a WinXP bootable disk with SP2. In the course of doing this,
it updates the Windows Share in the i386 folder you extract from the Windows
CD specifically for this slipstreaming job.

As there is already an i386 folder on my Hard drive from Windows
Installation, is this folder already changed to XP Service Pack2 details (as
I have that patch installed), or does it need updating via the same method
as in theeldergeek so that this folder is up-to-date, if it was required?

in other words, should I slipstream the original i386 folder on the HD or
has that been done at XP2 installation??

When you install service pack 2 it just updates the current system files. It
doesnt update the i386 folder that you copied to your hd before installing
xp. Now, if you take the sp2 and slipstream that folder, any driver updates
or added windows components that need the disk will have the updated version
of sp2. If you dont slipstream that folder and you add windows components or
drivers, you will be installing older software which could lead to conflicts
with sp2. I recommend slipstreaming the folder that way you have the updated
i386 folder if it is needed.

Many thanks, that was what I hoped.

I have not seen any comment about this around the net and it seems a logical
extension of slipstreaming a CDROM to make sure this permanent folder on
your HD is up-to-date and slipstreamed as well.
