The Feb '05 issue of PCToday magazine (pages 36-37) has an
excellent article titled, "Outside the Box: Slipstreaming"

The article says that you can create bootable CDs of WinXP
with all the latest fixes of that update providing you use the
original WinXP installation CD.

I bought a new HP desktop and a Gateway laptop this year, but
neither came with a WinXP installation CD. Instead, I got Recovery
discs for each. Will that work as a valid substitute?

They refer to a retail version of xp,oem xp is configured from the mfg,no dont
try that...

if your system is fairly new then sp2 should be on the recovery and if your
internet connect is dsl or cable it only takes 15 mins to get all the
updates/
SP2 is takes a lot more time than that/

No, you need to have a true installation CD to with which to start.

Incorrect, as usual. While OEM Recovery/Restore CDs cannot be used to
create a slip-streamed installation CD, a generic OEM CD (or even a
branded OEM CD that allows normal repairs/installations and doesn't use
a drive image of some sort) will work just fine for this purpose.

Tell me, Andrew, do you ever intend to learn *anything* about
computers, operating systems, or software?
