Windows server2k3 Fax service

Amiroo

Hi,

I am member of the ENTERPRISE ADIM, DOMAIN ADMIN, ADMINISTRATORS
groups.

After I installed fax services in my DC, I tried to configure my fax..
I got this error when I tried to access the installed fax ,"You do not have
the security permissions to complete this operation. Contact a fax
administrator for more information."
When I tried fax service manager, I get a popu that the "fax service is not
started and a connection can
not be made". The manager opens en when i try to access the properties, I
get
"access denied".

Any idea?

Thanks

I have exactly the same problem.
I'm also an admin, domain admin, schema admin, etc of my forest.
The server we are trying to use is Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition.
It has 2 NICs, 1 Modem (for being used as a fax), ISA server installed, RRAS
Server for VPN purposes.

I think I installed the Fax before promoting the server to DC and when those
errors appeared, I tried to uninstall the service and reinstall it again
without luck.

I also get "You do not have the security permissions to complete this
operation. Contact a fax administrator for more information" when trying to
open the properties for the fax printer. After accepting the error message,
the properties appear. Then I select 'Configuration' tab, and click on the
link 'fax service manager' and then another error appear stating "a
connection can not be made, the fax service is not running..". The manger
opens when I click Ok, and when I right click on the fax (local) item and
select properties, I also get "Access denied".

Please any help on this issue would be greatly appretiated.
Regards.

I got these same error messages when I installed Fax Services yesterday.
Did you ever get a reply back with an answer to your post? I have tried
installing a different modem and I have reinstalled the srevice more than
once. I just can't firurge out what the problem is and there is not much
documentation on web about this service in Windows Server 2003.

I found the answer on another string. It was posted by Vonid from Microsoft.
This problem seems to occur when you try to install Fax Services on a domain
controller. Here is what Vonid said:

[Beginning]
Fax Service runs under the account NETWORK SERVICE. In most cases on DC,
such issues happen when applying the domain policy changes the policies that
apply to NETWORK SERVICE. The following policies need to be enabled for
NETWORK SERVICE for fax to work.

(1) Adjust memory quotas for a process
(2) Generate security audits
(3) Log on as a service
(4) Replace a process level token
[End]

If your having this problem on a domain controller then this is were you can
find the settings:
(Start | All programs | Admistrative Tools | Domain Controller Security
Policy)
In the left pane, choose Local Policies then User Rights Assignment. You
will then see the setting on the right.

If your having this problem on a local machine then this is were you can
find the settings:
(Start | All programs | Admistrative Tools | Local Security Policy)
In the left pane, choose Local Policies then User Rights Assignment. You
will then see the setting on the right.

I hope this helps everyone. The more we get this answer out there the easier
it will be for others to find it.

I forgot to say that I needed to reboot after I made the changes. After that
the Fax Service worked like it is suppose to.
