Windows Picture Viewer

I have copied my photos onto the computer. All seemed
fine until it appeared that some photos had duplicated.
The apparent duplicates were only duplicated images on
the thumbnails. When clicking on these, they actually
display a different picture, and are not duplicates at
all. I cannot view the correct photos and the wrong
thumbnails are being displayed. This has not happened
with all the photos. Deleting the aparent duplicate,
actually deletes the original photo. Viewing in Paint
Shop Pro displays the correct thumbnail and photo.
Is there a way of reinstalling Windows Picture Viewer and
if so, how?
Many thanks
Melissa

If you open the folder that contains the images
and go to...Edit / Select All...View / Refresh...
Does it make an improvement?

I've seen two previous suggestions for solving
this issue...

1) Copy all images and paste them in a new folder.

2) Create a new WinXP User Account.

Many thanks for your reply. I tried refreshing which
made no difference to the images.

Pasting into a new folder solved the problem perfectly.

Many thanks again.

I see that the OP's problem has been solved, but I think
that the reason copying to a new folder works is because
the thumbs.db file gets regenerated. I could be wrong and
have no immediate way to test, but I think if she had
originally just deleted thumbs.db in the problem folder,
closed the folder and reopened in in thumbnail view, it
would have the same effect as copying to a new folder.

This may work in some cases but I have
suggested that folks delete the thumbs.db
files in the past and it did not solve the problem.
Who knows...maybe they didn't actually delete
the files.

It would be an easy solution if it works. Thanks
for the reminder.
