Windows or PC prob? System Halt on bootup: BIOS ROM checksum err

Hi, does anyone know if this is a windows problem, or a hardware problem?

My pc frequently fails to boot recently (its not old, under a year). The
same error always comes up:

"BIOS ROM checksum error
Detecting floppy drive A media
Drive A error. System Halt"

And it beeps continuously until switched off again.
Leaving it switched off completely for several hours usually results in it
booting up eventually, but if leaving it for only maybe half an hour - it
repeats the error message.

There's no disk in my floppy drive. I've looked in Device Manager and it
says that its all OK, it doesn't need updating, and there's no conflicts.
But I can't use the floppy disk drive because it simply doesn't recognise any
disk I put in, clean or containing data. I'm guessing that the bootup error
might be to do with the floppy drive not working, but I'm totally confused
cos I don't understand why it doesn't work, or why bootup seems to think
there's media in there ??

I don't know if the floppy disk ever did work because I never tried it until
this system halt thing (in an attempt to make a rescue disk). I'm not too
good at understanding computing either, so would be really grateful if there
is any help, if it could be sorta given as if to a dummy :)

I don't understand either why where this error very occasionally happened
from early after purchaing the PC but resolved itself after switching off and
on, but now does it every time the pc goes off and has to be left off for
hours and before it will resolve itself?

Thanks in advance for any help that can be given :)

Hi Paula ... It just might be you need to enter into your
bios setting and able the flop drive ... Tell us what
type of computer do you have , Is it a brand name comp ,
like dell , hp or ibm ? The more detail you give , the
better we can help you ...

Replace the CMOS battery. Check BIOS settings. How to do so varies
widely between systems, so refer to the manual for your motherboard or
search for instructions on the manufaturer's website. It could also be a
power supply problem.

Hi Paula
I've done some basic searching on the error you have stated your haveing and
all the solutions I can find seem to point to the fact that it is a problem
with your bios.
To further guide you to a solution I need for you to post some information
about your computer for me.

If you click on my computer, goto all program, accessories, system tools,
and then system information a screen will appear that lists all your system
information including the maker of your bios and it's version. In that screen
select edit up at the top and then select all it will high light everything.
Now if you select edit again and then select copy it will save that
information to the clipboard. Respond to this post and in the respounce
window press the Ctrl and V key down at the same time and all the inof should
appear in this window. we should be able to find a solution for you with that
info.

It's a hardware problem. It could be a few things but since it's less
than a year old, get it fixed properly under warranty, so as not to have
to deal with it yourself.

Hello, Is there a warranty, if so have the company fix the problem. If they
have a toll/long distance number call. If not try the company on line site.
If local take the unit to the shop. Whatever you do hope your problem is
solved.
Take Care.

Thank you to everyone. Its very late over here (in the UK) but I've read the
replies and will go over them again tomorrow when I'm not so tired.

I just logged in here again to see if I could understand whats happening,
but... nope, I can't right now lol, but at least the PC started up again :))

I'll look into what you all said tomorrow, in the meantime, thanks again to
everyone for trying to help. It's very much appreciated.

It's clearly a hardware problem, since the error occurs long
before Windows loads. As the PC is less than a year old, contact the
manufacturer for warranty support.
