Windows opens sideways

I purchased a Dell in January of this year. Windows XP Home Edition was
factory installed. Today, my 7 year old was playing games and he did
something that I cannot figure out ... the screen is sideways. I don't mean
the hardware (monitor) itself, I mean I literally have to lie on my right
side to actually read the screen.

I can open up in safe mode and it opens correctly, but if I reboot normally,
everything comes up sideways. Needless to say, this is quite irratating. I
have never heard of such a thing happening. Has anyone ever hear of this and
have an answer as to what happened and a solution to what I can do to resolve
this? ... and please don't tell me to buy a pillow and a cot for the
computer room (like my teenager recommended). Thanks for your help!!

Some video cards have the option to rotate the screen. Most likely the case
here.
Right click on the desktop and choose properties. Goto the settings tab.

Click on the Advanced button.
Somewhere in here under one of the Tabs( Depends on your video card) is the
choice to rotate the screen.
