I have windows xp pro installed on drive e (logical drive), while drive c only holds ntldr, boot.ini, ntdetect.com and bootfont.bin and is 8MB small. When i attempt to install sp1 it says there is not enough free space on drive c. Does it really need to install anything on drive c even though the system is on drive e? If not, what can i do to make the installer work properly?

Hi Koshimazaki,

I have windows xp pro installed on drive e (logical drive), while drive c only holds ntldr, boot.ini, ntdetect.com and bootfont.bin and is 8MB small. The installer routine will try to set up the temporal files it needs
on drive C. Given the small amount of space it cannot do so, hence the
message.

You could try to temporarily augment the partition size, you might use
Partition Magic to do so.

Good luck
