hello,
windows messenger, from the folder c:\program files\messenger, starts up in
the background, even though I am not using it at all. the program shows up
in the taskmanager as msmsgs.exe
the messenger service has been disabled, allthough I am not sure if this is
realated.
because I use msnmessenger, the attempt of windows messenger to log on fails
and sometimes the icon appears with a red-cross.
I have tried to disable access to the \program file\messenger folder by
means of ntfs-rights, but than a functions such as remote assistance does no
longer function.
it is possible to unload msmsgs.exe with the taskmanager, but a while later
it is back again.
both in windows messengers as well as in mns messenger, the start-up options
have been set not to load automatically and also not to run in the
background.
any suggestions ???
thnks
Fred

How about opening Windows Messenger (messenger service hasn't anything to do
with it) and in the options stopping it from starting automatically with
Windows and disabling automatic logon and stuff?

You might want to try removing Windows Messenger all together then.

Doug Knox (MVP) has authored this:
