Windows Messenger not working

I cannot get any version of either windows messenger or msn messenger to work
on my pc. I have service pack 2 and the firewall is set to allow access to
these programmes. When trying to instal the msn latest version i get an
error code 8100030d - i have followed the resolution provided on their
webpage but still not working. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

I have already uninstalled msn messenger and cleared the hd of all associated
files. I then tried reinstalling it. Not sure how to uninstall XP messenger
as its part of xp. Any ideas?

components---click Windows messenger to activate it.
