Unable to successfully uninstall MSN Messenger 7.5

I have recently installed the new Windows Live Messenger on my computer and I
have experienced some difficulties. I have contacted MSN Messenger online
technical support and they have provided me with the recommendation to
uninstall MSN Messenger 7.5 and Windows Live Messenger prior to
re-installation of Windows Live Messenger 8.0.

Therefore, from the control panel I went to programs management and tried to
run the unstill program to remove MSN Messenger 7.5. After selecting
Uninstall the program runs but after a while a dialog box appears and the
following message is displayed on the monitor:

Ajout/Suppression de programmes
Impossible d'ouvrir ce package correctif. Vérifiez que le package correctif
existe et que vous pouvez y accéder, ou contactez le revendeur de
l'application afin de vérifier que c'est un package correctif Windows
Installer valide.

The message is in French but I don't clearly understand what it means. It
seems that Windows XP is unable to run this package and is asking to verify
if it is a valid Windows Installer package.

In view of the above I would like to know how to successfully remove MSN
Messenger 7.5 on my computer without compromising its performance.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Guess it wouldnt run properly if its the "french version" of messenger. If you
cant uninstall thru add/remove,try downloading the same as you did before,
open, you should get:fix or remove selection. If not,go to search in my
computer,
search for msn,msn messenger,in results,delete the files,select search to
include hidden files also.

Not a Windows XP problem. You need to continue working with MSN Messenger
online technical support to resolve this issue.

Thank you Steve for your reply. I understand that MSN Technical Support
should be able to help me with this issue but they have mentionned that the
error message that I'm receiving is from Windows XP Uninstall program. As
soon as you select Uninstall a program, it is Windows XP ressources that are
sollicitated.

Thanks again and have a nice day.

Hello Andre,

Thank you for your reply. However, I would like to precise that I did at
first install the french version of Windows Live Messenger. Overall it was
working fine but there were some options that were unstable. The MSN
Technical Support have reccommended me to remove the old version MSN
Messenger 7.5 to solve this situation.

This is where I have a problem. I can't uninstall thru add/remove program is
unable to successfully remove the program. I've tried deleting the program
from Windows explorer but again a message such as "ressources used by another
program, unable to delete files" is displayed. I'll try to re-install the
version 7.5 and I'll see what I can do after. This is exactly where I need
assistance.

Your assistance is very much appreciated.
