moving to MSN Messenger

i have windows xp pro
it has windows messenger in it
but i downloaded and installed msn messenger
because it is much more cheerful and it incorporates
many friendly features.
my problem is when i open internet explorer
i get both windows messenger and msn messenger
trying to open and they interfere with each other
causing msn messenger (which i would like to KEEP) to hang.
then i get the send information to Microsoft window.
How can i disable windows messenger completely, to only let MSN messenger
work?
i did not find any uninstall feature to Windows messenger.
Thank you!

I'm having the same problem!!! I would rather keep version
6.0 as its easier and more entertaining to use but don't
know how to get rid of windows messenger. Did you get any
information and if so could you pass it on.

Guys ,
Right click on the "WINDOWS Messenger" icon (not the MSN
messenger) in the taskbar near the clock and
choose "exit" .

that wouldn't help.
1. because the next reboot - windows messenger would come up again and msn
messenger would hang again because they both try to search for contacts in
the list and for email messages in my hotmail account at the same time so
the bother each other and the error window would pop up again.
2. i am trying to completely disable and/or uninstall windows messenger to
enable a smooth work of msn messenger 6.
thank you anyway,
Eli

Boot Windows in secured modus. Then open the windows-
explorer and delete the directory of Windows Messenger
(as much as I remember it was drive:\program
files\messenger). Then reboot, ignore the error-message
popping up and install the MSN messenger.
This helped me!
