Windows Messenger (not Messenger Service) Keeps Starting By Itself

Jack

Does anyone know how to stop Windows Messenger (not the messenger service)
from starting whenever a connection is made? My daughter uses it, so I don't
want to get rid of it or dissable it. I just want it to stop starting up
when I go on line. People think my daughter is online and send me messages.

I've tied unchecking loads of boxes, like the 'Start when Windows starts'
for every user on my system. What else can I do?

Unfortunately, we have a very poor telephone service here - Verizon - and
I'm dropped of the line fairly frequently. So, it's a real pain when Windows
Messenger starts every time a new connection is made.

Thanks,
Jack

Do you use Outlook 2002? If so, there is a checkbox in Tools > Options >
Other. Uncheck this box & see if it helps

Hi Jack,

Prevent Windows Messenger from Running on a Windows XP-Based Computer
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302089

Disable/Remove Windows Messenger:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_mess_disable.htm

If you prefer to remove Windows Messenger manually, click Start, Run and
enter the following command:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Note: This will cause a long delay when opening Outlook Express if you have
the Contacts pane enabled. To prevent this, click Start, Run and enter
REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Right click in the right pane and select New, Dword value. Give it the name
Hide Messenger Double click this new entry and set the value to 2.
