Windows Messenger Email Notification

James

I recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro on my computer and
it installed Windows Messenger 4.7 by default. I decided
to download the email notification add-in and Windows
Messenger 5.0 before actually setting up my account to use
Messenger. I installed Messenger 5.0 and set up my account
and everything works. But now when I try to run the add-in
to install email notification, it says that I do not have
the latest Windows Messenger version and exits. What
gives? Any solutions to this problem?

Greetings James,

Windows Messenger 5 does not have support for Add-Ins nor does it have support for Hotmail
email notification. You'll either need to downgrade to Windows Messenger 4.7 or install MSN
Messenger 6 instead.

To downgrade back to Windows Messenger 4.7, click Start, then Run, type (or copy/paste) the
following:
msiexec.exe /x {ABEB838C-A1A7-4C5D-B7E1-8B4314B10138}
and then click OK.

Then, you can reinstall Windows Messenger 4.7 from here:

or if you prefer to install MSN Messenger 6 (which will *not* upgrade Windows Messenger), you
can find it here:
