Windows Media Player

I recently re installed XP Home, plus all the updates, also Windows Media
Player 11. I now find I cannot play AVI files, either on WMP or Power DVD
since re-installing. An error message box says I need to load An Indeo
Video codec driver compatible with this Version of Windows. On going to
their site It appears that its chargeable. Surely this is incorrect. Screen
shot of message attached. Any help would be appreciated.

If you were able to play DVD's prior to reinstalling, my guess would be
that you had other DVD software installed that provided the CODEC.
Since that is not necessarily provided by the reinstall disk, perhaps
there is another disk with that software on it.

I know Dell's are that way and assume others might be also.

Perhaps I did not make it clear. I can play DVD on both Power DVD and
Windows Media Player. The problem is that AVI files will not play. It seems
that there are dozens of codecs that can be downloaded, but im unsure as to
which I would Need. Surprisingly everything was Ok before I re installed XP
