Windows Media Player

I had to have my hard drive formatted recently. Now when someone sends me
something that should open up in Windows Media Player, the Media Player
opens up, and I get sound, but no picture. Any suggestions? Thanks. (I
have WinXP)

Hello Joy,

Possibly the video files that you are trying to play on Windows Media player have been encoded using
a DIVX or another similar codec. You might want to download/purchase the appropriate codec and
install them.

The man who sent me the videos in question has sent me similar things before
the formatting and they always opened. I feel relatively sure it had to do
with the formatting prodecure and reinstalling of WinXP. I had noticed
earlier that I didn't have java any more either. The computer shop
downloaded it for me on their DSL (I have dial-up). But I have moved (for
the winter) away from where the shop is now.

You might have had the appropriate codecs installed before the formatting. Due to the format and
re-install, you will have to re-download and re-install the codecs again.
