Windows Media Player v7.01 will not shut down.

Howdy: Running W2k with SP4 + roll-up. On some videos, mainly
avi's, when I try to shut down WMP the window closes but the sound
is still heard. I have to do the three finger salute to get to the
Task Manager to shut it down. But it is not listed under the
Applications tab, it can only be shut down under the Processes tab.

I have the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack v1.65 installed and that still
doesn't seem to help. Any ideas on how to stop this annoying glitch?
Thanks.

Less bloat, familiar with it. I use very little, preferring to use
the Media Player Classic program that comes with the below mentioned
codec pack. MPC won't render these vids, so I use WMP 7 for the
AVI's. Some of them (not all) will only play sound, no video in MPC.
WMP 7 usually will handle them, but doesn't want to quit like
mentioned in original post.

I have the WMP 9 codecs installed.

I'm using the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack v2.1.0 and the contents are
listed here:

DivX is included in the K-Lite pack.
