Windows Media Player 10 Crashing Browser

When I was using WMP 9 I could view streaming video in a web page with no
problem. Ever since installing WMP 10, everytime I try to view streaming
video that uses WMP, the browser crashes. This happens in both IE and
Mozilla Firefox. I have tried reinstalling the browsers and this does not
correct the issue. I have also tried all the updates and fixes for WMP 10,
nothing. Other people in other forums have reported this also, what is the
problem? Can I fix it? Just to be sure of this, I Checked my friend's
computer to see what version of WMP he is running and it is 9, and his works
fine. Microsoft needs to fix this issue, this is ridiculous.

You got that right. I have long since stopped using this application. If it
is only a media viewer to you then why all the troubles and the updates.
There are so many other players that work fine. I have had troubles come and
go so often it isn't worth the headache.

Well, Alot of websites use it to stream video (IE: www.ebaumsworld.com etc etc, news streams, netscape news video streams.) Is there any way around it? I think the website was created to use WMP to stream this since theres a little WMP on the webpage that the videos play in. I don't use WMP for anything, I use WinAmp because is rules. I just want my damn browser to stop crashing and work properly when streaming videos, this is annoying.

You don't have to use WMP. I have streaming files open with BSPlayer. WMP
started refusing to play streams from one of my own sites for the umpteenth
time for no known reason after I managed to just get it to work for the last
time. No other player has needed to be updated and updated so why bother
with it at all.

Well, How exactly do I go about changing the settings so that the streams
open using something else? I have tried everything. This is happening in
both browsers. Theres no settings in either to set which program will open
the streams, and if I go into WMP and tell it not to open streams, it doesnt
change anything.

Ok, just now to make sure I tried what this and it works. Open WMP and
deselect all the file types and open BSPlayer(or any other for that matter)
and select 'all' file types. Then open a .wmv file. It will now play in your
assigned player and not in WMP. You can of coarse select what files you want
to open with what player using as many as you like. You may have to click
'play' in BSPlayer after you click to open a stream not opening
automatically.

HTH.

Ok dude, I tried this and it doesn't work. What I am talking about, is the
websites that open up a little miniature WMP. You can't change that, thats
what the website is using. Everytime it opens, the browser crashes. Follow
this link and you will see what I mean by the mini-WMP opening on the page.

I'm not talking about WMV files opening in WMP. WMP works fine, except when its imbedded into webpages, which i cannot get around. When WMP is being imbedded into webpages to stream video, the browser crashes.
