Windows ME

Got to get some critical data off a PC for a friend that has Windows ME on it.
PC was built in 2002 so very outdated now & not used in the last 5 years.
Would the motherboard be USB 1.0 or 1.1, it was a budget one?
But would a current USB Flash drive be seen?

They only use laptops these days so no way to slave it with another PC.

Any help most appreciated.

USB should be backward compatible, so as long as you can boot the old thing up, you should be able to move data to a flash drive.
