i have a gateway computer with all the requirements im
pretty sure. when i try to load the restore disk it says
it cannot load the file I386\WINNT324.DLL it is corrupt or
something. i took the disk back to the store and got
another one. it did the same thing so i tried to reboot
with the disk in the cd-rom. it said it doesnt recognize a
previous version of windows installed on the computer and
asks for a older restore disk. so i put in the older disk
then it says it doesnt recognize that disk. please help..
thanks.

Because the Gateway is using proprietary software not recognized by the XP
Home software.

Check the Gateway web site for any comments on how to upgrade.

I don't understand what you've done. You keep referring to a restore disk?
What is this restore disk, do you mean a retail version of the XP
installation CD, a manufacturer's restore disk? Are you trying to upgrade
over your Windows ME installation or are you trying to do a clean install
and use the Windows ME disk when it asks for proof of a previous OS in which
case, a manufacturer supplied OEM disk usually will be unrecognized.
