Windows Mail using Word as editor - can't send mail

I have an account set up in Windows Mail which works fine for normal emails,
but when I try to reply to a yahoo group, it opens MS Word (2003) as my
email editor. I didn't set up an account in Outlook, since I am only using
it for the calendar (which I prefer over the new Vista one); I am using
windows Mail for email. Since I am not set up in Outlook, I can't send mail
from Word. Is there a way around this?

Apparently the MailTo protocol handler is being directed to Outlook
rather than to Windows Mail. Try this:
Go to Default Programs, which you can reach either from the Start
menu or the Control Panel, then click the first item: "Set your default
programs."
After a few seconds a list of programs comes up.
Click on Windows Mail. If all is well, it will respond
"This program has all its defaults."
If it reports less than all (3) of its defaults, fix it by selecting
one of the options indicated by green arrows.

It appears that Outlook is set as your default email program. What do find
set for email under 'Control Panel|Default Programs|Set Default Programs'?
