IE 8 in VISTA has led to what is below. Can't receive email.

Account: 'incoming.verizon.net', Server: 'incoming.verizon.net', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid command', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

The error message "unable to lock mail drop" often results when you
check mail repeatedly with too short a rest interval. Make sure that
the setting "Check for new messages every X minutes" has X=5
or more.

In the future, when you get an error message, right-click on your error
message, copy, then paste it into a reply here. Transcribing often
results in confusing typos.

Also, which antivirus are you running? Some of them are not fully
compatible with Windows Mail.

IE8 doesn't cause that problem. What can cause it is using an invalid
setting in Windows Mail.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers.
Uncheck the box for "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."

Something else that can cause it is a bad server and Verizon often
qualifies.

It could easily be a Verizon problem.

You should create a new thread (discussion) for your problem and when you do
answer the following questions. Were you ever able to receive messages? Did
you contact Verizon?

There are also some "Verizon Community Forums" at:
http://forums.verizon.com/vrzn
You should check there for discussions of problems that others are
encountering and discussing. If necessary, you can ask there for help.
