Windows Mail Locks Up

I have a message in my inbox and everytime I try to open,delete I get windows
Mail not responding. How can I get rid of this message?

Don't open it. Try dragging it from the message list pane to the Deleted Items folder.
If that fails, drag it to the Recycle Bin.

I'm not sure how to get to the message list pane. When I open windows mail it
goes straight to my inbox, do I need to change my settings?

I was unable to drag the message but I was able to click on the message and
shift+delete to delete the message. Thanks!
