Windows Mail deleting my e-mails automatically

I am running Windows Vista. Today I am having a problem with Windows Mail in
that every time I switch between folders, the last e-mail in my Inbox
disappears. It doesn't go into the Deleted Items folder, it just vanishes. I
have lost several important e-mails today. This just started happening this
morning. Help!

While viewing your Inbox go to View menu>current view and select Show all
Messages.

I have this same problem.. However my e mails just seem to disappear over a
period of time. The solution here does not retrieve them. I have also tried
the storage folder as determined in e mail maintanace but not all mails are
stored here either... How do I ensure that I keep e mails I do not delete?

Are you using a server with the IMAP protocol or with the POP protocol?
The IMAP protocol leaves stores mail on the server instead of on your
computer, which gives the people running the server the chance to delete
the older messages.

I do use AOL so that may explain it. However there must be a way I can save
them or retrieve them?

I think it depends on which email provider you are using. However, for some
of them, you can create an extra folder under Local Folders and use it to
store the older messages on your machine instead of on the mail server.

To retrieve them, you'll probably have to ask AOL if they keep backup
copies of the older messages they delete; you probably can't do it by
yourself.

I have checked my settings which appear to agree with this. How do you set up
a new folder to store them on the PC? I have also contacted AOL about this
who have just told me to sort it out with Microsoft!!

If you want to copy or move your emails to another folder:
Select the email(s), right-click, select "Copy to Folder" or
"Move to Folder". On the next screen you can click "New Folder".

I think there might have been a number of posts about this previously, but I
didn't have the particular problem then: As of a few days ago, many of my
safe emails are going directly into my WM Deleted Items folder without going
through my Inbox. I did make some changes to my message rules before then,
but whatever spam messages I don't want received, I have them deleted before
ever coming to rest in any WM folder. Thank you for help on this.

Well, emails don't move into the Deleted Items folder by themselves,
so one of your message rules must be causing it. Make sure each
message rule is terminated by the action "Stop processing more rules"
or else you'll get some undesired interactions.

Is there any way you can have the mail saved autmatically or does it always
have to be done manually?? I am still losing mail

Well, mail is saved automatically in the sense that it normally goes
into the Inbox and stays there unless you do something else with it.
If you don't think that is safe enough, you could:
1) Set up a message rule that automatically moves all incoming emails
into a folder of your choice. OR
2) Periodically move emails you want to keep into the archiving folder
of your choice. OR
3) Use File, Export, Messages, to copy emails to a place external to WM.

try going to TOOLS and select ACCOUNTS. Double click your default Email
server. Look for the ADVANCED tab and select. At the bottom of the screen
you will find DELIVERY section. There is a box titled "LEAVE A COPY OF
MESSAGES ON SERVER". Place a check mark in this box. Select APPLY. I hope
this works

I don't think you lost them.
Try this : ( Menu Bar )
View > Current View > Show all messages
