windows mail - compose new mail or reply

first of all vista is the most sluggish os i hv ever encountered till
date, hope that MS will not come out with more slower than this one.

I am not able to compose a new mail nor reply to any of the emails. as
soon as i hit the reply or reply all button, the window opens up and
the MS Vista windows gets busy forever, unless u click close and kill
the process.

same happens when we click write message.

Is this a virus or some kind of security issue.

Please help

I am having the same problem. I cannot send any emails; they sit in the
outbox and will not go out. and when I first open the mail program it often
hangs up while downloading messages and then crashes. I HATE the Vista mail

Sounds like an AntiVirus (AV) problem. You need to remove any AV that you
have and restart you computer. If it still happens, you need to get the
removal tool from the AVsite to help get rid of all vestiges of it.

If Vista is sluggish for you, then your PC hardware may not be adequate.

Doesn't sound to me like you have the same problem.

If you get an error message, post the whole thing here.

First you need to determine if any of the messages in the Outbox are
'stuck'. Move as many of those messages as you can to the Drafts folder.
If there is one that can't be moved or deleted, apply the Microsoft fix:

The root cause for this problem is running a non-compatible antivirus
like McAfee or Norton.

The system is centrino core2 duo 1.73 ghz with 1 gb ram. and only
windows mail is being used and nothing else.

no antivirus installed.

It seems like we have gone back to the charles babage engine to run
the vista on it and its still figuring out what is this OS, isnt it
too complex rather being simple.

And cant Ms trash the modules which user never ever require which are
loaded by default. too much of convergence of media is the culprit.

All I can tell you is that my daughter and I each have Vista laptops with
specs similar to your computer, and we have no slowness problem.

I think what bugs so many of us is that Outlook Express worked well and
quickly, and had no problems with large numbers of messages, etc.

I assume that other users, like me, have made the move to Vista and Windows
Mail to discover various inadequacies but no additional functionality...and
we wonder why!

I admit I'm still fairly new to Vista, but it seems to me that most of the
slow responses are down to the myriad of things that Vista insists on doing
'in the background' (eg file indexing). My new hardware is much faster than
the old setup, but the old machine with XP made most things happen faster.

I don't find any inadequacies in WinMail besides the removal of Hotmail.

We aren't here to debate the merits of Vista.
Vista's new security model apparently mandated a rewrite of OE,
the result of which we know as Windows Mail.
Change of any kind can be difficult for some people, but adapt we must.
As they say, there is no point in crying over spilt milk.
