Windows Mail: Can't set "Courier New" as default font

Axel Dahmen

Hi,

I can't possibly find any place to have Windows Mail use "Courier New" as font for new newsgroup articles. Although I believe to have set "Courier New" at any possible option, Windows Mail still uses "Arial" when I click the "New Message" button on a newsgroup like this one.

Can anyone please enlighten me on how to set this monospaced font in Windows Mail?

TIA,
Axel Dahmen

Are you talking about the font you see while you are composing the message?
If so, Tools, Options, Compose, Font Settings.

This is not necessarily the same as the font you see after that message
is posted.

Tools | Options | Read | Fonts
Put Courier New in the spot for Variable Font.
It may not work, but that's what you did in OE for plain text (it doesn't
work for me). Plain text sends no font information with the message.

Thanks, Frank, for trying to help.

Actually, your suggestion is exactly what I did myself in OE (although that was definitively never the place where I had expected to set a font for *writing* posts). But it seems this doesn't work with Microsoft Mail anymore. I've already set both fonts in that dialog to Courier New, but to no avail... :(

By any chance, have you installed the IE8 beta? It disables font
selection in OE, Windows Mail, and Windows Live Mail.

Hi Gary,

thanks for trying to help! I've also set these options, but to no avail as well. I've just set-up Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 on my computer, no further installations (apart from Virtual PC). So I'm still using IE7, or - well - Firefox.

Does this information perhaps ring any bells?

Thanks for taking the time.

The only other advice I can offer is as follows:
Settings for attributes like fonts are stored in the registry. When
you make a change to one of those settings, it requires a write to
the registry. Some third party security programs are overzealous
by preventing some writes to the registry, which means a setting
change might not get saved.

Hi Axel,
I had same problem with making a font stick when composing and the answer
lies in creating your own stationery. If you haven't already figured it out
see Ambre's msg dated 3/18/08. It worked for me!
