windows mail buttons

can anyone tell me how to display the buttons at the top of the mail program?
I am talking about the send forward compose ETC. When I got this computer
Sunday they were there but I did something wrong now they are not there. I
can get them to display on a message but not at start up..

Right-click near the top where it should be, and check the Toolbar option.
