Windows Mail Big Problems

K

Kimberly OFlaherty

I am migrating over from a desktop with XP to a laptop with Vista. I have
had to do everything four and five times for transfers and even then,
everything is not coming over.

I have two problems at the minute - one is that it seems that one of my
folders has become invisible. When I search for the messages, it brings them
up as in the folder but it is not listed anywhere in my windows mail. I have
tried to import it back from my backup but, although the import says it is
done, still, the file is not found.

Also, because of all this completely annoying behavior, I am left with a
Recovered Messages folder and sub folders that I cannot delete even though
they are completely empty.

Please help.

Maybe from Windows Mail menu View option, then Current view is limited?
Change to view all while standing on that folder or Incoming.

Maybe you have Recovered Messages folder inside Deleted items
after you partialy deleted messages from 'recovered'.
First delete 'Recovered' folder from 'Deleted items' then try delete
'Recovered folder' from 'Local folders'.

Which antivirus are you using?
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
or Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

Kim,
I am afraid I can't help you with the problem itself, but I just wanted to
let you know that you are not the only one. I recognize most of the
annoyments you sketch. That's why I started looking for help here too. I also
wonder whether some of these problems occur because my XP is an English
version and Vista is in Dutch...
I seem to have imported my mail in Windows mail, but I don't see the
messages...
Good luck, Pieter Schermers
