Hi,

is it possible to somehow change windows mail to create replies without top
posting
but commenting under the quoted text? I write messages in HTML and when I
reply
to a message I can't really write underneath the text (there's also this
black line)

Any ideas?
I wish windows mail had conformed to this sort-of-a-standard and stop making
people
top post all the time.

Try TOOLS|OPTIONS|ADVANCED tab.

"Compose reply at bottom of message"

Also, try not pressing the <return> key to start new lines, but instead
let word wrap do it. MAY make for a cleaner presentation. You might
also experiment with your character encoding setting.

Hi

I'm just the opposite...I've already read the post, and don't need to see it
again, but for those that insist on 'repeating' the post and all of the
replies, I'd just as soon open a response and see that...WITHOUT all the
posts! I'm not too sure about the 'sort-of-a-standard'...and If I could
change it, I would!

It was once a usenet standard, it no longer is (contrary to the popular
arguments). I commonly top post or in-line post because it simply makes more
sense. If you read a post and go to the response, why should you have to
reread it or scan through that which you've already read to get to the next
segment? It'd be like turning to the next chapter in a book and being forced
to first reread the chapter you just finished. Bottom posting makes sense
when one reads only the final post in a thread via an archive, but that's
not what most people do, most follow it while it's in progress.

As dev has told you, you can now set Winmail to bottom post by simply
selecting that option in the advanced section, just like in knode.

Side posting also is nice sometimes. Especially when people complain a lot about top posting. <G>

Top posting is the way to go!
How many times you want to read quoted text, when browsing through replies?

What is your problem with top posting? I prefer top posting because I do not want to have to wade through all the crap that I have read a dozen times just to get to the reply. Top posting is best.

Oh yeah, TOP posting is best. If not interested can go on to next post with arrow key. Don't have to take my hands off the keyboard and fool with the scroll bar. I've always considered bottom posting kind of rude.

If you will open mail and select Tools and Options and Advanced, you will
see a place where
you can tell mail to reply at the bottom. Whether it works or not is for you
to discover.

Top posting or bottom posting doesn't matter too much to me.

HTML posting in USENet newsgroups does bother me. Newsgroups are for
Text posting only. Leave the HTML crap for email or web pages.

OMG,
Really people;get a grip;top posting-bottom posting;who really cares?
Usenet standard;msnews standard-lol-is this a writing class?
Personally; I like the sidepost.lol

Jeff- if I can read it-good enuf-lol

This is not USENET, its msnews.

steve

You have got to be kidding me. You really think this is not a USENet
newsgroup?

Just because it is hosted on the MSnews server does not make it
something totally seperate from USENet.

Last time I checked the Vista groups weren't (yet?) propagated to the
rest of Usenet. However, the other umpteen Microsoft groups are.

I was most impressed when I started to read this post. I was thinking
"ah-ha! Someone that actually cares about netiquette". Then I became
immediately disillusioned when I read "I write messages in HTML".

So much for netiquette....

If done properly, a post with many follow-ups will have responses that
are trimmed to include only the pertinent information.

What happens of you arrive at a thread where the originally post(s) are
expired? The reply with no reference may very well make no sense.
I'm not too sure about the 'sort-of-a-standard'...and If I could change it, I would!

It is indeed a standard. See --> http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1855.html

And if you really delve into it it does make perfect sense.

And if done right, you'll note that I did more than just bottom-post
here. I interspersed my response with your remarks.

This is the way it's "supposed" to be done. Of course if you want to be
arrogant (or a typical Outlook Distress user) you can just say "I don't
care as long as it makes me happy. It's all about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

Prove it.

Has this been deprecated? :http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1855.html

Point me to the updated RFC.

Only if the posts above it weren't trimmed properly. Another common
faux pas.

Interesting.

What do you come up with for people who complain about HTML in Newsgroup
posts?

If quoted correctly quite often. How the hell do you know what to reply
to, if you've not read what was posted previously?
