Windows locks up on playing videos

Anthony

I have a WinXP Home Edition, 2.53G P-4, 512k, EVGA TI-
4200 128mb 8X-AGP, 60GB Harddrive.

Recently no matter if I play a video in Windows Media
Player or Quicktime. It will play for a second then
locks up the system. Only way to get out is to shut it
down by hitting the kill switch.

I have reloaded Win Media Player and Quicktime and it
still has a problem. Prior to it having the locking up
problem, when I played videos it would sometimes flash
the whole screen black for a second then keep playing.

Not sure what to do at this point besides to blow the
hard drive and reload everything. Anyone have this
problem before or any suggestions????

THanks!
