windows live mail

help!!!
as with the many other post i am not able to send mail using windows
mail(the mail remains in my outbox).
i tried a few of the suggested fixes without success.
i switched to Windows Live mail but am having the same issue. i receive the
attached error:
The connection to the server has failed.

Subject 'tttttttttklllllj;'
Server: 'mail.optonline.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
Socket Error: 10060

Why did you only try a "few of the suggested fixes" and not all? And "as
with the many other post" s, please go to your e-mail provider's Web e-mail
setup / help page, and get the correct configuration information...all of
it. If you are still having trouble then return to:
Microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop (since you changed mail clients)

Lincoln actually got it right but was way ahead of his time when he said,
"You can have some of you computer working all of the time and all of your
computer working some of the time but..." It was he that said that, wasn't
it?

When you got that error message, was Optonline actually providing
your connection to the Internet? If this happened on a laptop, it
may have been connected to a different ISP than your home ISP.
