hi, l have a question, what's it's the warranty for a windows license???, i
mean, let's say i buy a computer (either laptop or desktop) and it comes with
an original Windows XP, but something happens with my computer (it could be a
virus or another problem) in less than a month, and i have to reinstall the
system... do i have to buy a new license, or it's there a way to recover my
license, or what??? cause i'm affraid if that could happen, you know Windows
XP pro is around 199 dlls, and if i can only use it for a small time , that's
kinda worry !!

How could there be a warranty for a license?

No, you'd simply use your existing license and reinstall.

license, or what???

"Recover" from what or where? The license won't have gone anywhere.

The WinXP license doesn't "expire." Once purchased, it can be used for
as long as you abide by the terms of the license.

You do not need to buy a new license. You would reinstall the operating
system on that particular machine with the product key that is on the
bottom or side of your machine. If Windows came preinstalled on a
computer, it is an OEM copy and tied to that machine. Refer to your
manual or the OEM's website for directions how to return your computer
to factory condition.

And even if you don't.

Ok, but then let's say that i bought Windows XP pro (not came from factory)
and i need to move the hard drive to another computer. if the problem occurs
(virus, etc. mentioned in my other post), can i still install it again and
use it, even if is another hardware setup??

Certainly. Retail licenses are transferable to another computer; only
OEM licenses are permanently bound to the first computer on which
they're installed. In fact, you won't simply be able to move a hard
drive (with WinXP installed) to another computer without having to
perform a repair installation, at the very least.

No. You can reinstall it as many times as you want or need to. All you need
to do on reinstalling is reactivate it. If it's been at least 120 days since
the last activation, it should activate over the internet just as it did
the first time. If fewer than 120 days, you will be prompted to activate via
voice phone call to an 800 number, but that's also quick and easy.

:

Read the license for yourself. It's called the EULA or End User License
Agreement.
