windows keeps freezing

windows keeps freezing. not programme specific will
freeze at anytime. antivirus/spyware up to date.
Uninstalled SP2 then reinstalled windows xp home but made
no difference, may have even made it worse.

Please help

This is quite often a hardware issue. Overheating (blow out the dust;
make sure the fans are all working, monitor the temperature of the CPU
and system board), failing ram (download and run memtest86 from
memtest86.ccom), other hardware components failing.

One to check on: it may be a result of the mouse driver and the video
driver arguing over which controls the pointer. It is easy to check on
- Control Panel - Display - Settings, Click Advanced, and on the
Troubleshoot page reduce the acceleration slider one notch or two. If
one does it, there is negligible loss of performance: if two are needed
look for updated video drivers from the maker's site.
