i am on xp home. My system keeps freezing and the mouse is
eratic. I have even re-formatted thinking i had a virus.
If i open then close the task manager it's ok again for
another few minutes. I have nothing running in task
scheduler.I only have windows installed at the minute {no
programmes or software of my own). I have tried different
mice but it made no difference. Can anybody help?.

You need to say more about the system.

Is it a home made PC? Is it a brand name PC? If so, what's
the make and model and how old is? Has it been upgraded
from running Windows 95 or 98?

Provide information such as the make and model of the
motherboard, video card, how much RAM, etc?

It could be that the power supply unit is either old and
needs replacing, or it isn't up to running new hardware
you've added.

Is the processor being cooled properly. Open the case to
make sure that the cooler is properly attached over the
processor and is working properly.

Removing cards and RAM modules and reseating them often
fixes a propblem such as this.

You could try the PC from another wall socket.

You should provide as much information as you can about
the PC so that you're not asked for it, and your question
will be answered faster.

Four days ago I installed WinXP Home on my hard drive, which I had had to
wipe and format 4 times due to previous issues I won't go into. Everything
was going fine, until now. My comp freezes up all the time, and I keep
getting "This program is not responding" when I use the 'back' or 'close'
button.
RAM: 192 mb
Processor and speed: Intel Pentium III, 450 MhZ
Computer: Compaq
Age: Not sure; my cousin, a certified tech, built the thing for me but
didn't give me any help files or anything.
Video card: Rage IIC (brand new - just installed it about a month ago)
PLEASE HELP! Tried wiping and reformatting hard drive, but couldn't get into
the DOS program that allows it. Thnx
