Windows installer2 error with Win XP Pro

Trying to install a legal copy of FrontPage 2000 on a Win XP Pro/ Office XP
laptop. When I click setup I get the following error:

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you
are running Windows in safe mode, of the Windows Installer is not correctly
installed . Contact your support personnel for assistance.


I am not running in safe mode and cannot find a version of Windows Installer
2 for Win XP - only for Win 2000 and below.
Any Info is appreciated

I have windows xp home addtion and when i try to

install something it says windows installer could not be
found or is currupted.I can not install new updates. and
how do you tell if your running in safe mode

In Safe Mode, your desktop has Safe mode displayed in each of the four
corners
