Windows Installer on Startup

Every time I start up the computer, I get a windows installer dialog box,
preparing to install. This happened after I downloaded a windows media
player update, and when it said "You must restart your computer now for
changes to take place" kind of message, and instead of restarting
immediatley, I finished a few things, and then restarted. Since then, I have
this problem. I diabled Windows Installer on both the group settins thing
(gpedit.msc) and msconfig services. I still get the windows installer every
time I start up, and when I tried reporting this to microsoft, they said I
would have to pay a $35 charge just to send an e-mail. (It said I get 2 free
requests, but when I entered my XP code, it said I have to pay). Why can't I
make windows installer go away, and why can't I ask microsoft about this?

OK - I don't get any error messages, so the first link did not help. I
dowloaded the windows installer cleanup, but there was nothing there for
windows media player, and nothing that I did not recognize. The third link
gave me "This page cannot be displayed". Let me be a little more specific.
Each time I start up, I get a dialog box that is titled "Windows Installer"
the text in the box is "Preparing to install..." and there is NO cancel
button. After 30 seconds or a minute, the box just dissapears. But it
takes a little while for the box to come up in the first place, and I end up
waiting about 5 minutes every time I start up. (I tried installing the meida
player update at another time, and restarted immideatley, but now I get the
dialog box twice, so it's wait a while, get a box, wait a while, it goes
away, wait a while, get another box, wait a while, it goes away, wait a
while, I can use the computer). When I tried installing the installer
cleanup, I could not because windows installer was disabled, so I had to
enable it again through gpedit.msc, and msconfig. Meaning that windows
intaller was disabled properly, but it did not disable startup files I think.

I installed the newest 3.1(v2) and restarted, got same problem. Decided to
do any windows updates (Critical, Suggested, and Hardware). After doing the
windows updates, I get 3 windows installer boxes on startup. (wait a while,
box, wait a while, box, wait a while, box) I can not do anything until all
the installer dialog boxes go away, and it is worse now. (Sometimes if I
forget, and try to open a file before the dialog boxes come up and go away,
my computer crashes or gets locked up for a very long time) Thank you for
your continued help, I hope there is a solution to this problem.
