Windows & Icons lose position on desktop

As an example, I just installed Yahoo Messenger. I put it on the right side
of the desktop. When I reboot it comes back three times as wide and over to
the left. Not all program windows do this. Some remember. Yahoo is
consistantly wrong. Also, sometimes, my icons lose their desktop position and
just move over to the left. Not all of them mind you, just some!

Any suggestions appreciated.
