The Icons on my Desktop keep moving

The Icons on my Desktop keep moving every time I start my computer or
restart it. A few of them move one position over from where I left them on
shutdown. How do I get them to stay where I left them?

Any help gratefully accepted thanks

Look for Restore Desktop at http://www.softwarium.com/

Nice little program that will copy and restore your icon
locations if the get changed, by a screen resolution change
for example.

| Right click anywhere on the desktop 'Arrange icons by',
| Change settings there.

Thanks for the replies, I've tried changing everything in the "arrange
by..." windows but some of them still move down one whole position after I
start up or restart. ?

I had a similar problem : had icons at the bottom of screen, after
sleep, the icons from teh bottom were up at the top, and the 2nd row
moved down.

Looks like one solution (so far at least) is to NOT put icons on the
bottom row. Then after the first sleep, the icons that were in row 2
have shifted down to the bottom, while the icons in row 3 stay put -
leaving a gap at row 2. But it's stayed that way for 4 days now, with
many sleeps/screensavers/etc.

All this is with the icons supposedly locked, and I'm the only user.

Weird !!!!

good luck

Right click on an empty part of the desktop, select Arrange Icons, and
deselect Arrange Automatically. Make any other changes you wish, and you
should be able to place icons where you want them and have them stay there.

Done that, works for 'most' of the icons, but still was getting a few
moving 'once in a while'. Never consistant. It's some bug in XP
