Windows Giant Antispyware Beta

L

leftred

I want to uninstall the program, but it does not appear in Control
Panel>Add/remove list and I can't find an uninstall file for it anywhere in
the Program File\Microsoft Antispyware folder. Can anyone show me a simple
way, or do I have to do it the hard way by killing it in the Registry.

I am using WindowsXP Pro with SP2 and it is up-to-date.

How arrogant. It is the most invasive program I have ever loaded and there
is no apparent way to uninstall it.

Thankyou Mr. Gates.

Well it does appear on in Add/Remove programs on all of the system I have
installed it to (include 5 of my own).
If for some reason it is not there then you could either try and run the
install again - it may give you an uninstall option, of you could use System
Restore.

You should note that this is a Beta (unfinsihed work in progress)

Supposedly, it uninstalls itself. Personally, I have that "critical update"
hidden and never plan to download it.

You are confusing the monthly spyware removal tool that we ship via Windows
Update with our new full Anti Spyware product we are offering for testing to

For me it is listed in add/remove and in "all programs" their is an
uninstall icon.
Try to install it again and reboot perhaps it will be listed then.
Just curious but why are you uninstalling it?It seems to work just fine for
me with zero problems?

I wouldn't install that one either. MS should test new software themselves,
make sure the bugs are out of it, and then offer it to end users instead of
using them as guinea pigs, although I would still not download it and
wouldn't even consider paying for it when there are many anti spyware
programs out there that are quite good and free.

And if you can't find it there, here is the hard way to uninstall it:

Start > Run > type in the Open box: regedit

And then click on OK button.

Then follow this path in Regedit:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products

And Click on the Products folder.

Then go to the Menu Bar in Regedit:

Edit > Find...

and type: Microsoft Antispyware

This should bring you to the Key named: ProductName.

Right above that is a Key namedL ProductIcon.

The Data should read: C:\Windows\Installer\{AwholeBunchOfGobbelyGook}

Ex.:

{AwholeBunchOfGobbelyGook} will look like something like:

{536F7C74-844B-4683-B0C5-EA39E19A6FE3}

Write it down, or copy it to a text file.

Now you want to go back to:

Start > Run > type in the Open box:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe /x {AwholeBunchOfGobbelyGook}

Or as an example:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe /x
{536F7C74-844B-4683-B0C5-EA39E19A6FE3}

Make sure you use the squiggely brackets {}!

Hit OK, and follow the dialogue in the boxes that pop up.

You can try my example in the run box first, if you are really daring as
that is the value on my computer in regedit, but I got a fairly strong
feeling that {AwholeBunchOfGobbelyGook} is different with every
different install.

Good Luck!

OK, don't install it; no one has a problem with that, even those who like
and do install it. It's not like the Beta was forced on you, nor was it
given to you under any false pretenses. You agreed to what it was and said
you still wanted to dl it. Or, are you "one of those" that can't be
bothered with RTFM and such and has no idea what you're downloading?
I suspect the latter, but if all you have is childish prattle and
blather, then it's of no use to anyone. I can only imagine what else must
be on your machine. You should check into Linux or Lindows if you're so
unhappy with MS. No one's forcing you to run it.

He's being a cry-baby and from the look of it, didn't/doesn't know what
"Beta" means. People have to learn that IFF you try a Beta program or app,
you become a good candidate for being able to improve the softrware and have
an influence on its design, which after all, IS the purpose of a Beta.
Apparently when people like that go surfing, they only see two things on any
web page: "Free" and "Download".
I"ve tried, and can't yet find anything wrong with the Beta. That
doesn't say there are no glitches or bugs in it, but it does say that the
way I use it, I'm unlikely to come across them. And if I do come across a
bug or serious anamoly, it might just get fixed: Another positive for MY
use of it. Betas are "real world" tests and as such, valuable, IMO.

Talk about blather, and yet another of the endless stream of MS drones apologizing for them. I still don't get what your post has to do with anything Alias posted regarding the topic; it is non-sequitur!

Are you done with yours meaningless rant, Poopy?

Don't worry, with GWB continuing to cut federal funding for embryonic
stem stem research, you'll get a cure for the big A, long after your
dead!

LOL! The problem is that many here in this group, including MVPs, are
recommending to novice users that they install MS's Beta Antispyware
software! Novices, which is the large majority of all computer users,
should never be encouraged to run beta software!

Real world testing by people who know what they are doing are helpful,
but the novices should not be enticed to use it from the advise of
so-called experts or on the front page of MS's web site! That is just
utter negligence!
