Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (WGAN) Questions

P

Pete

Hi everyone,

Please excuse my ignorance about the subject. I have a couple basic
questions. I am running xpsp2 and my Windows is perfectly legit.

I wasn't going to download the WGAN when it first came out, but gave in to
Bill Gates, after researching the subject, and failing to really understand
the "what I considered MS spying".

I have a basic question. When you click on the descriptive info before
doing a WGAN update, it says something about "WGAN will check your pc for
any illegal installations or programs" or something like that. I assume it
meant Windows programs - but dunno.

So please answer me this. If I was to download a file sharing program such
as "winmx" or "ares" - is Windows going to detect it and warn me about
installing it, and if I did install it, is it going to prevent me from ever
doing any windows updates in the future, if it senses the file sharing
program is not legit. Or am I way off base, and it only looks at Windows
installations.

Thank you...Pete

It presently only checks the validity of your operating system. I have read
somewhere recently that it will be extended to Microsoft Office Suite
programs. Third party stuff it will ignore.
