Windows Genuine Advantage Notification

I started to receive the above notification
for the past two days. It wants me to
install
something to check that I have a valid
version of Windows; or that is my
interpretation
of what it says.

I have enough unwanted junk on my computer.
Why would I install this? I don't see
any advantage
to me.

The Windows Genuine Advantage *Notification* is different from the updates
to Windows Genuine Advantage that you must download occasionally to
continue getting Windows Updates. It is *never* necessary to install the
*Notification*. The next time you get the prompt from Windows Update to
install it, click on the "Custom" option instead of "Express". Now you will
see all the updates being offered to you. Uncheck the box next to the
Notification. When you click "Finish" (or "Next", I don't remember) you'll
be offered a chance to click another box saying "don't show me this again".

I think what you are saying is that I
didn't
need to install the *Notification*.

I did go and install it after I read
Gerry's
response.

Thanks for explaining this further,
