Windows File Protection

Can someone please tell me how to disable Windows file Protection? I'm using
F-Secure virus/etc. protection, and I've been advised to turn off WFP since
my computer is now taking an AGE to start up. Apparently "this might cause
System File Checker (sfc.exe) to go through certain DLL and EXE files at
startup" which bogs things down.

Thanks,

Sorry. I should have added that I've looked at the various Knowledge Base
articles on this and can't make head or tail of them.

Simply go to run, type:cmd In cmd type:Sfc /REVERT or Sfc /SCANONCE
Either should get you default settings,or type:Sfc /? For all cmds

Thanks,

Have you determined that sfc.exe is in fact running at startup? There
are many reasons for a slow startup, and the System File Checker isn't
even on my list of usual suspects.

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't?

The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the
malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what
programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?

Be sure the computer is clean:

If you've determined that the machine is clean, do clean-boot

Thank you, Andrew and Malke. My machine is squeaky clean - it's been
thoroughly checked and I run a full scan twice a week. Tech support at my
ISP, who also provide my virus/spyware protection, told me this startup
problem is a known conflict between WFP and F-Secure software. The problem
began immediately after I installed the software. My ISP is extremely
reliable, and I trust there judgment re the software which they provide us
with free when we subscribe to their internet service. I've also done
everything I know over time to make sure XP is running optimally (though I've
always thought it generally runs a tad slow).

Appreciate your help. I'll try your command suggestion, Andrew, and report
back.
