Windows File Protection System File Checker problem

Using XPSP2 all up to date.

SFC used to work just fine from my CD.

Now, when running SFC either from cmd prompt, start/run with any switches,
/scanboot, /scannow, /scanonce, /purgecache, etc... I always get the box
telling me to insert my Windows XP CD (its a slipstreamed bootable CD that
functions properly). I insert the CD and SFC gets one file then the box pops
up again and I have to eject the CD, put it back in in order for SFC to get
one more file. That is more wear and tear than I care to subject my CD
player to which, works fine for all other applications. I tried changes to
what happens when I insert a CD and tried default settings to no avail.

I copied I386 folder to C: and set the source path to "C:/I386" in
HKLM\soft\micr\winNT\curntver and, in HKLM\soft\micr\win\curntver\setup to
"C:" SFC still asked for the CD with exact same behavior. I reset them back
to look in D:I386 and D: respectively, which is the right drive and drive
letter.

Regarding the registry key that WFP supposedly copies information from to
the later one above at startup does not exist in my registry;
HKLM\soft\policies\micr\winNT(\Windows File Protection),doesnt exist only
\Terminal Services.

I have been to these sites: http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winlogo/drvsign/wfp.mspx
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/222473/EN-US
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/222193

I uninstalled Roxio 6 CD/DVD software thinking it might be interfering. No
change.

I'm out of ideas...

The problem is youve added a drive or two to youre machine, which replaced
youre cdrom or cdrw original letter. To solve this, open regedit, expand HKEY_
LOCAL_MACHINE,microsoft,windows,current version,open set up,in set up,you'll
find youre cdrom in installation and source path,L.click on one,go to
edit,modify,
change it to the same letter as its listed as in "my computer",do this for
both,
exit out regedit.....

I haven't added any drives or changed drive letters. The drive letter D: is
in "sourcepath" and there is nothing listed under "installation source" in
the "setup" key. I would rather not haphazardly add a drive letter there
without a clearer explanation.
