windows file protection/replace pop up message

U

user

After surfing the net, a window popped up w/the following..

Title: Windows File Protection

"iles that are required for windows to run properly have
been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system
stabiity windows must resotre the original versions of
these files

Insert your Windows 2000 CD now."

Then 3 buttons can be clicked:
Retry, More Information and Cancel

When I click Cancel, window pops up
says 'possible reasons for this problem:' then nothing is
listed.... Not very informative..

So my question is, since all of the security patches and
installed and current service pack as well, how do I go
about resolving this - will system still function
correctly if the CD is installed and the files are copied
over again since the service pack is installed - whatever
the current version/number is...

Ideas?

Security updates and Service Packs update the file catalog and registry entries so Windows File Protection will not
replace the files they add. Does the message tell you which file(s) it needs to replace? Has anything else been installed
recently that might have replaced a protected file?
