Windows Explorer

My Dad has been installing programs on his new Dell computer running XP Pro.
He has set the switches in Windows Explorer to open up at the C:\ drive
instead of "My Documents". Now, when he opens Windows Explorer, it opens to
the C:\ drive, but there is no "+" sign by the C:\ drive and he can't see
what is in the C:\ drive on the left pane. Any suggestions?
