Windows Explorer Shuts Down Unexpectedly

W

Every time I try to use Explorer.exe for any length of
time, it suddenly shuts down all by itself. I have
stopped all third party services and eliminated all
programs in Start Up in msconfig and it still happens.
I have used the Event Viewer and found that
Event_Shell_Restarted, error code 1002, with source
winlogon. Microsofts link says no user action required,
however, this problem prevents me from using explorer for
any serious file management. Any help would be
appreciated. Below is the event viewer results:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Winlogon
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1002
Date: 1/13/2004
Time: 5:00:44 PM
User: N/A
Computer: DELLXPS
Description:
The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was
restarted.

Sorry Gerry, but none of the suggestions on the web page
you gave me are appropriate for my problem, any other
ideas?

Have another look at the Event Viewer errors in each of the three section and see if there are other errors on or about the same time!
