Windows Explorer, Save As function and System Backup issues

Guest

I've got a Compaq Evo 600c with Windows XP Professional SP1.

1. Recently my Windows Explorer has been locking up (not responding) when I
try to use the left hand screen to expand/collapse folders. If I click on
the folders in the Right hand screen I can still search and view
files/folders but the left hand screen locks up. In addition:

2. When I generate a document in Word or Excel and click on Save As, and
try to use the drop down menu in the save as window to save the new file in a
subfolder in My Documents, I lock up (not responding) and have to End
Program. Also

3. Since I'm afraid, with the previously discussed issues, that I'm close
to a drive crash, I tried to do a System Backup As soon as I choose "System
Backup" selection box in the window, the program locks up (not responding)
and again I have to End Program.

Any Ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

AM I GOING TO CRASH?

I recently did a complete system cleanup including, chkdsk with repair,
defrag, scandisk, multiple virus scans, security software updates, spyware
cleanup and emptied all Temp Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Emptied the
Recycle Bin.

Run memtest86 to check the RAM. Many people have been bit by the
latest security "update" but you might not be one of them.

Thanks, Larry. I haven't been able to work all weekend, and I did finally
find this same answer last night, but does that mean I'm going to have to
continue to be down until Tuesday when they release this thing? I'm not a
strong enough user to go through the registry change.

Thanks.

Hi Marla,

You don't have to wait until Tuesday
Download the fix from Kelly's site and save it to your desktop. Double-click
on the saved file.
It is a VBS that will make the registry changes for you.

Hi Larry, thanks for your posts. I went to Kellie's website and downloaded
the fix. Cross your fingers for me. I'm not that technically savvy.....I
know just enough to get myself in trouble. I'm going to run the vbs file and
see if that helps.
