Windows Explorer problem

On a Dell D600 portable, Windows Explorer will launch and
function, but the left pane will not display My Computer
or any drive mappings without clicking on them in the
right pane. Even then, it only displays what was opened
in the right pane. It also hangs when closed, and has to
be crashed with task manager. Any ideas?

I have a variation of the same problem on a Dell desktop
PC (W2K Pro SP4). Windows Explorer launches OK in both
left and right panes, but the very first time I try to
expand a folder in the left pane (click on +) takes a long
time over 30 secs or more. (Right pane works fine for
expanding or selecting a folder!) After that its OK and
expanding is fast in left pane too. But gradually over
time (hours) Explorer slows down until it hangs or
corrupts with an error message.

Any suggestions? Or how do I reinstall/repair Windows
Explorer?
